Gasteria

Gasteria

Plants in the genus Gasteria are native to southern Africa and are related to the Aloes. They are stemless plants with thick leaves often marked with spots of various colours and usually arranged in pairs though some spiral with age. The name Gasteria derives from the Latin word for 'stomach', and refers to the sack-like shape of the flower. Most gasterias tolerate low light levels, and make excellent indoor plants.

CULTIVATION TIPS
Summer grower. They thrive in light shade to shade, but will take sun for part of the day. Use a very porous potting mix to increase drainage. Water regularly during summer but let the soil dry out between waterings. Keep reasonable dry during winter. Frost hardy to -1°C.
